The Torrey papers include correspondence 1935-65, published papers, class materials and lecture notes, research notebooks, newspaper clippings and patent information. These materials document his relationship with Rutgers University as Dean of the Graduate School, Chairman (1959-64) andassociate professor (1946-50) then professor (1950-76) of the Physics dept., a member of the President Search Committee (1971) and the University Senate and Director of the Research Council 1965-74. The General Files series also contain some biographical information and reviews of other authors works. The latter two series consist entirely of physics research materials.

Born April 4, 1911 in Yonkers, N.Y., Henry Cutler Torrey began his career at Rutgers University as Professor of Physics from 1946-1964, served as Chairman of the Physics dept. from 1959-1964 and Dean of the Graduate School from 1965 to 1974.
